Dont let the plastic fool you though, they are very strong and this wheel, once clamped down, does not move. As the title says, its expensive, but definitely worth it. I am not disappointed nor do I regret it. The clamp jaws are plastic but the screws they travel on are metal. oh, before I forget, beware the force feedback, make sure you have a good grip on the wheel, especially if you have never used a force feedback wheel before, it will rip the wheel right out of your hands :). All parts are very durable being made out of stamped steel, even the gear shifter is a steel shaft, although when using the gear shifter you have to be a bit gentle or you miss gears in H-Shift mode. The steering wheel is a decent size for what its used for and fits your hand perfectly.
I dont use the clutch pedal, so I cant comment on that. I was afraid when I purchased this, I have never owned a wheel before and wanted to have the best I could get for my money. Same with the shifter (with proper use). The foot pedals are great too, the brake is very firm and you really have to push it, just like a real brake pedal. I am 6'3" and have big hands, this wheel is as thick as the one in my Chevy Blazer, and feels just as comfortable with its leather bindings. the shifting knob is small but easily used and it does let you know its there. The accepterator pedal though isnt near as stiff, I can push it with my big toe and feel some resistance, but I guess real cars are the same these days with the drive by wire technology from what I hear. All in all, I am happy with this buy, even though it set me back a bit.
Luckily the wheel itself comes with a setup program (Vista version is downloadable on the logitech site) where you can set the amount of force used, and also many game may have the same option in game.
This product is everything I had read about and thought it would be. The logitech g25 is head and shoulders above it. I'am very satisfied and would recommend it to anyone. even my wife thought it was very good and she only tried a logitech fx wheel once before. I'am involved in iracing and it is the perfect compliment. Don't waste your hard earned money on anything else.
Brake Pedal issue is solved by purchasing the NIXIM.com G25 Brake Mod for less than $10 (US).Make SURE you get those little wires inside the pedal housing back into their little channels. Not recommended for the careless do-it-your-selfer. One pinched wire and you are S.O.L.
I have yet to try it with a computer simulation game. For some odd reason, all the cars changed their handling characteristics once using the wheel, as compared to the game controller. I mainly use the wheel with GT5 prologue. I was going to buy the evolution seat, but my wife did not like something that bulky in the middle of our bedroom. Bought the wheel about a month ago. In some cases I have been 5-6 seconds faster with the steering wheel. You can definitely feel the car as it begins to break loose, and keep a nice slide going. The feedback from the wheel is very realistic, and definitely makes it so much easier to point the car where I want it to go as compared to the game controller.
As soon as I started to play with the steering wheel, the opposite was happening, the cars now were a handful to drive oversteering quite a bit. I wish I could have more flexibility in the settings, very limited, but that is more a drawback of the game. And also bought the WheelStand pro, from a company in Poland to mount the wheel to. All the cars seemed to understeer quite a bit, and I had to change the suspensions settings to loosen them up. Set up was pretty straight forward, the game recognized it right away. The wheel itself is very well constructed, solid. I have been able to improve my lap times by about 2 seconds with the steering wheel right out of the box.
